About the Speakers

Vik Arya, Managing Director, Nuveen
Vikrant Arya, CFA, CAIA, is a Managing Director within Nuveen’s Retirement Investing group. Vikrant leads Nuveen’s Defined Contribution engagements with institutional consultants, with a focus on building advocacy for Nuveen’s Target Date Fund suite, Lifetime Income solutions and other investment strategies appropriate for DC plans. Prior to joining the firm in 2021, Vikrant spent 12 years at BlackRock in various roles within their Retirement Group spanning consultant relations, institutional relationship management and product marketing. Vikrant also spent time within BlackRock’s U.S. Wealth group. Vikrant graduated with a bachelor’s degree in Business Administration in Finance from Howard University. Vikrant is a CFA and CAIA charter holder and holds the FINRA Series 7 registration and the Life Insurance Producer license. Vikrant also represents TIAA/Nuveen on the Executive Committee of the Defined Contribution Institutional Investment Association (DCIIA).

Bill Ryan, Partner, Defined Contribution Team Leader, NEPC
As NEPC NEPC Defined Contribution (DC) Team Leader, with over 25 years of DC-specific experience, Bill is focused on developing a team culture based in designing and implementing innovative DC solutions tailored to each plan sponsor’s unique objectives. Bill’s strategic leadership drives the way we service DC plan sponsors and optimize participant outcomes. Bill cherishes what he learns from working with each of his clients and tries to pay it forward to his current and future clients. Over the past 10 years he has advised more than 30% of Pensions & Investments’ (P&I) top 100 DC plan sponsors entrusted with over $800 billion in retirement savings for 60 million participants. As an industry leader Bill is a trusted advisor to many of the key organizations within the DC ecosystem. He is a currently appointed member of the U.S. Department of Labor ERISA Advisory Council. Bill is a member of the Plan Sponsor Council of America (PSCA) Investment Committee. Bill served on both the Operating and Executive Committees for the DC Institutional Investment Association (DCIIA) and has been the Chair of DCIIA Investment Policy & Design Committee. For P&I he has been a P&I Eddy Award Judge (2016-Present); a DCIIA/P&I Innovator & Excellence Awards Judge (2017-Present); P&I’s NextGen awards inaugural advisory board, trainer, and judge (2023-Present); P&I Influential Women in Institutional Investing award judge (2023-Present); the P&I DC Investment Summit Chair (2016 -2021), and the P&I Retirement Income Summit Chair (2019-2020). Bill has the privilege of being acknowledged with awards in his roles as both a Plan Sponsor and an Investment Consultant. He has been named a P&I Eddy Award Winner in 2013, a Power Broker within Employee Benefits by Risk & Insurance magazine in 2020, and a Knowledge Broker by Chief Investment Officer magazine in 2023 . He has also been a Finalist for PLANSPONSOR magazine’s Plan Sponsor of the Year in 2013 and a DC Innovator of the Year Finalist for aiCIO magazine in 2013. Bill regularly speaks at conferences and is frequently quoted in the press in publications such as the Wall Street Journal, P&I, PLANSPONSOR, Forbes, and ai-Chief Investment Officer. Prior to joining NEPC, Bill was the Head of Aon’s North America DC Multi-Asset Solutions team, which included four DC subject matter expert teams: the U.S. and Canadian DC Manager Research team, the Custom DC Solutions team, which was responsible for over $500 billion of bespoke DC solutions; the DC Fund Management team, and the Retirement Income team which helped clients evaluate DC retirement income solution offerings. Before he was a consultant, Bill was a plan sponsor. As a Director within the University of California Regents’ Office of the Chief Investment Officer, he was responsible for overseeing UC’s $20 billion DC program’s investments, including a $5 billion custom target date fund series and multi asset funds which invested in private equity. Bill earned his B.S. in Management from Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute and a M.B.A. in Corporate Finance from the University of California, Irvine. Bill holds the Chartered Alternative Investment Analyst (CAIA) and Senior Professional in Human Resources (SPHR) designations.

Greg Ungerman, Senior Vice President, Defined Contribution Practice Leader, Callan
Greg is responsible for setting the direction of Callan's defined contribution business. Greg T. Ungerman, CFA, is a senior vice president and Callan’s defined contribution practice leader. Based in the San Francisco headquarters, Greg is responsible for setting the direction of the firm’s DC business, providing DC support both internally to Callan’s consultants and externally to Callan’s clients, and working with Callan’s team of DC subject matter experts to develop research and insights into DC trends for the benefit of clients and the industry. Greg is chair of Callan’s Defined Contribution Committee, as well as a member of Callan’s Management Committee and Institute Advisory Committee. He is a shareholder of the firm. Previously, Greg was the co-manager of Callan’s San Francisco consulting office. He worked with a variety of plan sponsor clients across the Western region, including corporate defined benefit and defined contribution plans, foundations/endowments, and multi-employer and public plans. His client service responsibilities included strategic planning, plan implementation, coordination of special client requests, and customized performance reporting. Greg joined Callan in 1998. Before joining the plan sponsor consulting group in early 2001, Greg was senior analyst in the Client Report Services group. In that role, Greg specialized in all aspects of performance measurement and analytics and was responsible for managing some of Callan’s largest reporting relationships. Prior to joining Callan, he worked at IMG, organizing professional golf and tennis tournaments. Greg graduated from the University of California, Davis with a BS in managerial economics. Greg is a holder of the right to use the Chartered Financial Analyst® designation and is a member CFA Institute and CFA Society San Francisco. He is also a member of the Institutional Retirement Income Council (IRIC) Board of Directors.
