Financial challenges experienced by Gen Z and Millennials are quite different from those of previous generations. Issues such as student loan debt and lack of emergency savings are major obstacles to retirement savings. How can employers help? Unused employer matching funds amount to over $24 billion annually, and offering employees flexibility in maximizing their employer match can greatly improve financial and mental well-being, as well as help attract and retain top talent. Moreover, employers have significant opportunities to help employees lower their student loan payments and even forgive outstanding student loan balances, but these opportunities are not being fully utilized.
